DATAMASTER RADIO INFORMATION

Q Will data work with our radios?
A As of the 28th June 1998, all data installations must use equipment that is approved for data use:- Tait / Icom / Yaesu / Maxon / Motorola. all produce such radios. Our preference would be the Tait or Yaesu on the basis that everything works with a single lead and without extension speakers but you are the customer so the final choice is yours.

Q Will I have to change frequency?
A Almost certainly yes. All data allocations these days are on either mid band or low band channels. Modern radio equipment will operate both on hi and mid band and it is a simple matter to re-program the radios. The move from hi to mid band is normally within acceptable limits of the antennas hence, re-tuning is not necessary.

Q How many channels are needed?
A You will need another channel for data use as voice and data just don't mix. You normally keep your existing voice channel but this will become virtually unused. A single data channel will support over two hundred cars working at any one time.

Q What base station needed?
A There is only one base station required for data and your business depends on it so don't try to cut corners with a mobile and power pack. A professional base may cost quite a bit more but they are designed to a higher specification and will outlive your mobile. Larger companies should consider a full duplex base as this allows the base to transmit and receive data at the same time.

Q We have a remote base is this a problem?
A No. Over half of the companies we supply data to use remote base stations to achieve their radio coverage. The telephone lines to the transmitter must be four wire if you intend to run duplex. The specification for these lines is the same as for voice. Do not let telecommunications companies sell you a special data line at extra cost they simply are not needed for data!

Q How long does it take to fit a car?
A This is difficult to say but allow about 30 mins for data and radio to be on the safe side and to ensure that the installation is tidy.

Q Can you supply radio equipment?
A Yes we can but we would strongly advise you to use a local supplier who can also help with any problems that you may have. Local radio dealers will often offer to install the data units, radios and antennas for you after the original installation.
